Freshwater Pearls, The Perfect Statement Piece

posted on 10 June 2011

A freshwater pearl is a beautiful treasure created for us by a freshwater mussel. It can take up to six years for a freshwater pearl to be fully formed and ready to be harvested. The wait of course is truly worth the time. A freshwater pearl with it's irregular shape and size, provides a beautiful and unique statement piece. Most freshwater pearl pieces are made into jewelry. The jewelry is easy to find and fairly inexpensive compared to a saltwater pearl creation. You can find the stones in shades of white, cream, and even darker irridescent shades of purples and blacks. Pearls do not require a lot of care or maintenance. They are too fragile for a strong chemical cleaner, so it is best to clean them in a mild soap and water solution when necessary. A freshwater pearl necklace, bracelet, earrings or ring makes a very stylish statement and will surely be enjoyed for years to come.

Pearl jewellery

Pearls in a necklace need to be matching colours, shapes and sizes to be pleasing to the eye. They do not have to be absolutely identical as this would look artificial – as all pearls are organic and will vary slightly. It is usually very easy to judge when a string of freshwater pearl jewellery looks wrong. For example in a neckace of 7-8mm pearls it would look odd if there was a group of larger pearls to one side or if there was a small pearl sandwiched in between 2 larger ones. A good jewellery maker will know instinctively how to match pearls for the best effect. It is best to examine a necklace by putting it on a light cloth background in natural daylight. Avoid indoor lighting, UV lights or direct sunlight. The luster should be good and the pearls should not look chalky, yellow or dull. Pearls which are naturally coloured my have slight variations in tone but these should not be too obvious and small variations will make the piece more interesting. Hold the necklace in your hands and examine it from different angles. Try not to be too judgemental – a pearl necklace will never be absolutely perfect but if it looks OK it probably is.

The Evie Strapless Bra for Certain Dresses

posted on 3 January 2011

I attended a function the other day, one of those where my nerves always over-rode any enjoyment I may have. It was a very formal occasion and so I chose a strapless dress. Naturally I had to find a strapless bra, and chose the Evie strapless bra. Half the battle is finding suitable attire - the other half is battling your nerves at the function - I always have this nightmare of meeting another women in the same dress, or people giving me glares as if I'm some kind of fashion victim. I can't help but feel nervous at such parties. The first thing I do at such parties is order a cocktail first to steady my nerves. Then I reassure myself that all the other women are feeling exactly as I am - and I think this is true to a certain extent. I always seem to see nervous women at such events!

I Hope Spring Allows Me To Wear My Wardrobe Sooner Rather Than Later

posted on 26 December 2010

I've been buying loads of spring and summer clothes today in the Christmas Sales - some I'm getting as much as 70% off. I just hope the spring comes sooner rather than later in 2011 - I can't wait to wear them! I've bought myself some peep toe high heel shoes for weddings and parties - they look so great, but of course I can't wear them now as the weather is atrocious. I've also get myself a lovely flower-patterned dress, hat and fascinator too. I'm thinking of days out at the races, you see. I do love going to Ascot and have been going for the last 10 years. So come on weather, get your act together - stop messing us about, and move those warmer winds to the UK so we can melt this horrid snow and we can be civilised and fashionable again - I hate looking like a damn eskimo!

Make a Christmas Day Resolution

posted on 25 December 2010

I'd rather work through the Christmas holidays. Look at it like this: I get paid twice the rate, and when the holidays are over, everything's on at half price - so you could say I'm on four times the rate if I spend this money on all the bargains on offer. I've seen all sorts on half price even from Boxing Day - from plus size lingerie to plasma TVs. Not only that, but don't you find the holiday season a bit boring after a few days? The same old stuff's on the telly every year, the weather's rubbish, and it all starts to feel a little stale. So my advice to people is : don't wait for New Year to make your resolution - start on Christmas Day - if you want to go running, go for a run. If you want to quit smoking, do it today!
